Yesterday I was craving something crunchy. Two months ago that would have been a bag of salty, greasy chips. That was two months ago, things have changed. Instead of grabbing something unhealthy from the gas station, I decided to try making the baked zucchini chips I see all over Pinterest. 



I was pretty excited to taste the final product because chips are one of my biggest guilty pleasures. What could be better than making healthy, diet-approved, crunchy chips?

First I needed supplies. Thanks to our garden, our kitchen was stocked with zucchini. Last week I bought a handheld mandolin for $20 at Kohls. Something about thinly sliced vegetables screams possibilities to me. All weekend that mandolin was begging to shred some veggies, and my stomach was begging for a crunchy treat.

In a perfect world, my chips would have been better than a bag of Lays Salt and Vinegar. In the real world they turned out like charcoal.


Heres what happened. So the directions said to bake for 30 minutes on 250 degrees, then to rotate the pan and bake for another 30 minutes. Well holy crap, an hour is a long time when you have a craving. So I baked them for 30 minutes, got impatient, and turned them on broil. Then I got distracted and 10 minutes later I smelled smoke. Ugh. 

That was a big fail. I was still craving something salty but was too bugged to try another batch. To avoid caving to my craving I went to bed at 8:30 p.m.. Problem solved. 

Im going to try these again the right way. When they actually turn out Ill post the recipe for all of you! :) Hopefully I dont burn my house down with the second attempt.
